Ventilation

  • Proper ventilation is essential for pig health and welfare.
  • Ventilation systems should provide fresh air, remove excess heat, moisture and gases, and maintain a comfortable temperature and humidity
  • Ventilation systems can be natural, mechanical or a combination of both.
  • Natural ventilation relies on wind and thermal buoyancy to create air movement.
  • Mechanical ventilation uses fans to control air flow and pressure.
  • Ventilation rates should be adjusted according to the season, the age and weight of the pigs, and the environmental conditions.

Pig housing automated feeding is a system that delivers feed to pigs in a controlled and efficient manner.

  • Optimised feed intake and growth performance.
  • Types of pig housing automated feeding systems include:
  • Dry feeding systems: use augers, conveyors or pneumatic tubes to transport feed from a central silo to feeders in each pen.
  • Liquid feeding systems: mix feed with water and pump it through pipes to feeders or troughs in each pen.
  • Electronic sow feeding (ESF) systems: use RFID tags to identify individual sows and dispense a customised amount of feed to each sow in a group housing setting.
